Xanthosoma Albo Variegata
Alocasia Mickey Mouse

Plant Name: Xanthosoma Albo Variegata (also known as Alocasia Mickey Mouse)
Description:
Xanthosoma Albo Variegata, commonly referred to as Alocasia Mickey Mouse, is a member of the Xanthosoma genus within the Araceae family. Originating from tropical America, these plants are favored for their large, bi-lobed leaves, resembling the ears of the famous Disney character. They typically reach a height of 6 feet in outdoor settings, with indoor specimens averaging 3 to 5 feet in height.
Watering Needs:
Water thoroughly and allow the top 3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Adjust watering frequency according to environmental conditions, watering once to thrice a week during spring and summer, and reducing to once every three weeks in fall and winter to accommodate dormancy.
Light Requirements:
Prefers bright indirect sunlight. Indoors, place near a well-lit window, while outdoors, choose a spot with ample indirect sunlight to prevent leaf scorching.
Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 54°F to 85°F (12°C to 29°C). Protect from temperatures below 50°F (10°C) as they can cause damage or death to the plant.
Soil Type:
Requires rich, well-draining soil. Use a mixture of coir fiber, perlite, and common soil, or substitute coir fiber with peat moss for an economical option.
Humidity:
Prefers high humidity levels, ideally above 80%. Mist the plant regularly or use methods such as pebble-water trays or room humidifiers to increase humidity, especially in dry environments.
Fertilization:
Apply a mild houseplant fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Avoid over-fertilization, especially in colder months, to prevent harm to the plant.
Pruning:
Remove old or dead leaves to maintain plant health and appearance. Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears for clean cuts.
Propagation:
Propagate through division during spring to mid-summer. Separate offsets from the parent plant and replant them in separate containers with well-draining soil.
Growth Zones:
Suitable for USDA growing zones 10 and 11.
Toxicity:
Handle with care as Alocasia Mickey Mouse is toxic to humans and pets. Contact with the sap may cause skin irritation, and ingestion can lead to gastrointestinal discomfort. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Note:
Avoid overwatering to prevent fungal issues and root rot. Provide adequate ventilation to maintain good airflow around the plant. Repot only when the plant outgrows its container, choosing a pot twice the size of the previous one
